Visiting the Balze area means admiring one of the main attractions of Valdarno. Just think that Leonardo da Vinci chose them as the backdrop for the Mona Lisa!
Millions of
years ago, in the current Valdarno area (of which our facility is also part),
there was an enormous lake whose contours were represented by the Chianti and
Pratomagno mountains.
Over time
the lake slowly emptied and the sediments that had settled on its bottom were
exposed first to the action of the water and then to that of the wind, giving
rise to particular geological formations which took the name of Balze.
The
itinerary proposed by Federigo and Francesca starts from Castelfranco di Sopra,
a very suggestive village, and extends among green hills, fruit trees and wine
cultivations from which the Balze peep out and announce their presence. You
will gradually immerse yourself in the nature of a curious, yet fascinating,
piece of Tuscany.
The moment
you arrive near these rock formations, you will be transported with your
imagination into a unique and particular landscape. You will be so amazed by
the evocative atmosphere they create that you will have the impression of no
longer being in Tuscany but in the surroundings of the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
